Creating work inspired by David Carson

David Carson is an American graphic designer, he creates magazines, album covers, typography experimentation. He doesn’t work in the traditional way most graphic designers would, as he was never told what you should and should not do as a designer. The way he had created his work was through the finding of different materials and then taking them back and scanning them in to the software he used and creating the effect he wanted.

The way he made his designs he would always have a direct link to what he was promoting, he would try and create a visual representation using typography and images from ripped out articles in news papers to create what he felt represented his work. Good examples of his work are from the magazine ray gun who he done the covers for them. My favourite one of them is this one from the 90s i loved how the names are all done in a train ticket print what looked so cool and the layering of all the papers put gather.

I have attempted this my self by using the same process he had taking the materials i had at hand like magazines news papers and other every day items i then cut words and letters to form an idea i had got on the spot, the California big dream, this came together really well and I’m so happy with how it turned out the texture I created with the rips of paper and layering is what i wanted and the way the words came to gather so nicely, this reminded me of the xerox art we had done the lesson before and i really enjoyed that as well.

By learning these new ways of creating posters and visual works are all beneficial to creating mood bored and finding design ideas and i think i can use this in my fashion books as well.
