Sustainable fashion the ethical out look

 The ecologist

I have chosen to look at this company specifically and how they talk and explore the sides of ethical fashion and how we can improve them through others story’s that they discus.

I’m looking at an article called “hand me downs” written by hazel silver, she looks at how in our generation and this current time period high street fashion and fast fashion has made it so easy to buy new clothes really easy and that now we have so much we don’t wear them as much and then discard them and she looks at companies that help stop this and try to take old clothes and give them a new life.

The company i was most interested in that i felt kind of contradictory to its ideas in the way of there prises and what they are trying to do, this is H&M they have introduced a clothes recycling point now were you are able to trade in bags of old clothes and then in return get a voucher of 5 pounds for each bag that you have to spend in store. In the article she discusses that were they are giving the 5 pounds voucher it is encouraging them to by a cheap out fit or item that they then might use a few times then throw away so surely then as the whole high street should stop selling ridiculously low priced items to prevent the amount we do use then throw away much quicker. But  as i was told that it then creates a whole new issue of people not being able to afford the more sustainable high quality products that most likely cost a lot more causing the hole new problem. Looking back at the donation of the old clothes we are then later told in the article that its not even sorted out in the uk to see what is reusable and can be saved it is taken to Germany and in case you didn't know Germany is a land locked country so it would if it was going by boat across the sea to port in Holland or fiancé or the closet neighbour country to then be driven to the place were it is being sorted what causes so much pollution its self and you might as well not bother recycling the clothes unless they have a sustainable way of transportation what is unlikely. As the article then states that H&M ware now doing a continuous clothing range out of these items but were are they manufactured and will they have to travel even further to get the products back in the uk we don’t know as they don’t disclose all the information as most fast fashion retailers might tell you the country but not the location of the factories. But looking at it from a consumers point of view they would see it as a very eco friendly way of reducing fabric waist not thinking of the details of what i just shared as some who is looking at it in depth.
